Blog Virgin
Well… not exactly. This is my first ever blog on my new website, so I figured it’d be really nice to think of myself as a blog virgin while I’m writing this.
Recent upheavals in my life has led me to stop personally writing for some time now, and I must admit that I miss the feeling of relief you get after writing about something to get it off your chest. Since Miguel and I got back from the states – which was February 26, and a good month and a half ago – I’ve done nothing but focus on working. Perhaps it’s the need to do great at my job, or maybe the long employment drought I had to go through before getting it. I had, after all, a four-month-long vacation since October, and in between that I wasn’t really “fully employed” though I was doing freelance writing work for Global Sources and HR recruiting for Morgon Morris.
I’m happy to say that I feel quite stable at my new job as a Content Manager for a software development company here in Hong Kong. It’s not the type of job I would have thought I would be in, having working in media, publishing, marketing and sales for so long in the Philippines. But now that I’m here, I feel like I should give myself a congratulatory pat on the back for even getting this far – web design (which I love) with absolutely no web design background, forum moderating (just one year foruming experience at an anime site), graphics editing (I really should shift to using photoshop, til now I still use Des’ recommendation of a ULead program) and copywriting manuals (easy enough).
My home life has also suddenly picked up its pace, as if to compensate for the slack we had. Miguel has started to work in several schools, and is slowly but surely filling his weekday schedule with teaching sessions, some of which include teaching reading and listening to form 2 students, others dealing with drama and speech. I’m really proud of the way he’s so driven to do great in his new profession, and I think that he’s got an awesome future ahead doing what he likes.
On the hardware part of my life, I just got around to playing with Adobe Web Premium, and I’m finding some of the programs totally useful in making my work easier. Hands up to the new Dreamweaver which gives me faster FTP time, and the Contribute is pretty handy in editing copytext on our websites without compromising its integrity. I’ve yet to explore more about it, but that will have to wait until I get things done in time for this month’s beta testing.
