Both species occur on the West Frisian Islands: P. montanus was collected on Terschelling and Vlieland, and P. betuleti on Texel and Terschelling. Despite the observed differences, the overall distribution pattern of the two species is quite similar and frequently they are found at the same locality on the same day. The observed coincidence of the species, and the greater abundance of P. montanus, also seem to be a general Central European pattern (Rieger & Rabitsch 2006).
