Because the Thai government did not technically permit “bombers” to be based in their country, the B-26K was re-designated A-26A. Most A-26A combat missions were flown at night along the Loation panhandle and border of North Vietnam in an area known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail, primarily to interdict trucks carrying enemy supplies into South Vietnam. They continued combat operations until November 1969, when they were replaced by AC-130A and AC-130E gunships. Remaining A-26As were returned to storage except for ten examples retained on operational status until 1973.
