RECOMMENDED SAFE JOB PROCEDURE For each potential accident, ask yourself what exactly should that person do or not do to avoid the accident. POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS OR HAZARDS Ask yourself for each step, what accidents could occur to the people during the job step. : Break the job down into basic steps that tell what is done first, what is done next, and so on.

The JSA, then, is a specialized approach of task analysis that takes an existing job and analyzes its tasks to specifically identify hazards encountered in the work environment. At the very least, the JSA does have a place within the system safety process as a tool to evaluate the hazards or risks of an existing task or function during the operation phase of the project life cycle. Here we see another connection between the principal elements of the industrial safety process and one of the basic objectives of the system safety effort, namely, that the JSA tries to eliminate or control the risk of hazard exposure in a given task during the life of the project.

These rules form the basis of most all occupational safety and health programs currently in place throughout both the public and private sectors. S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) at 29 CFR 1910 and, for the construction industry, at 29 CFR 1926. These codes address literally thousands of situations, working conditions, hazard control requirements, and worker safety and health protection standards all intended to make the work environment safer. Although numerous areas are addressed and a minimum level of worker protection is ensured by implementation of these many standards, it is important to note that the major driving factor for worker safety is contained not in the Code of Federal Regulations but in Section 5 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act itself.
